Although the majority of Scotland's religious life has always been centred around Glasgow and Edinburgh, Jewish communities have also formed in Aberdeen, Dundee, Inverness and some smaller Scottish towns. In the early twentieth century, the town of Falkirk boasted its own cheder (religious school), and in 1965 the Invercloy Hotel in Ayr was still offering kosher supervision. In 1999, the Scottish Council of Jewish Communities (SCoJeC) was established to act as an umbrella representative organisation for all of Scotland's Jewish communities, from the Borders to the Isle of Skye.
